Will 17 inch rims fit on my car?

I have a mazda protege 5. 03' model I have 16" wheels on there I was wondering if I buy 17" rims/tires will they fit on my car or do I have to by some type of conversion kit or something. Might be a stupid question but I've never bought rims before. and I dont see 16" rims anywhere so yea thanks
