Wil there be an untethered jailbreak for iPhone 3GS 4.2.1?

Hi I have an iPhone 3GS 4.2.1 and am wanting to jailbreak it. I DO NOT trust redsn0w and I have heard that jailbreak me can not come out with a jailbreak for 4.2.1 because of some kind of patch apple made or something. Is that true? I have also heard that comex was supposed to release an untethered jailbreak for 4.2.1 by Christmas but now I am hearing that it might be sometime after Christmas. Is this true as well? Thanks in advance.
