With the wikileaks controversy being topical, I got to thinking about the justification some people make that some information should be classified because it may jeopardize a nation's intelligence and consequently may also endanger civilians, should terrorist gain an advantage over using that information.
But it got me thinking about that argument. and I feel that if all information was free and open, and that every government action was transparent, that there would be no need for clandestine operations and backroom dealings because every one would be holding their cards open sort of speak.
but that obviously begs the question about what if there are certain governments and terrorist groups who wouldn't want to or just wouldn't at all play by the rules, and therefore in keeping with the cards analogy, would keep a card up their sleeves or would play them closed. and i agree that they would be a threat to that type of global society that would strive to be completely open and transparent. but i believe if the majority begin to play by these rules that it would be easy to force the rest to too. or at least you would be able to figure out easily enough who wouldn't be hiding something by elimination. and this way there would be no need for an intelligence agency because there would be nothing to hide, nothing to be classified.
but i'm an idealist, and know the world isn't black and white. but the way i look at things, i believe that were above everything else, we are all human being in the same planet, sharing the same experience, going through the same quest of finding out why exactly we are here. and so labels such as nationality, race, gender, sexuality, are just things that hold us back from really getting to the truth of things.
