Sounds like a TV. Maybe a combo of both. I've never heard of just cables losing a signal like that and not getting it back.

Pluggin straight into the TV. It's an older TV so it can only do it through one input, but yes, it says on the bottom Input: 480p and plays DVDs/Wii games with progressive on.
Its just at that one point: everytime I press 'Home' and then click 'Wii Menu' and BOOM signal is gone, goes to black. As soon as I say 'yes' or 'no' to 'Are you sure you want to quit?' the signal comes back.
I just took it as crappier cables/TV and just play 480i.
