WiFi on T-Mobile Phone?

Am I right when I say that I will be able to use wifi at school and at home when it's available, and then use my data plan when I absolutely have to (I'm getting the cheapest one)? I have unlimited texting too, so will that interfere with my texting plan, or should I be able to text as much as I want still?
