Why you write diaries?

I know many people write diaries. Please give a details explanation actually why people write diaries?
I am going to write a large article on this topic so I need you to please write something here for me so that I can include them in my article. Thanks for your help and the best writer will get 10 points from me.
 
I think diaries are for... sad moments :-|
Why?
Well because you want to share with someone your feelings, and as we all know, sometimes we can`t rely on anyone else but us.
I kept a diary, when I was younger.
When I was in a good mood I didn`t actually wrote hundreds of pages. I just wrote things like ` It was ok today. I`m happy. Me and Ann are friends again. See you soon! ` Just to give an example. I just couldn`t write every little thing that happened.
On the other hand, when I was sad, I was writing every tiny insignificant feeling and every thought that ran through my mind, just to eliberate [is this right?] myself.

So, I think diaries are for sad people :)) Kind of.
