Why would the war in Iraq be about oil?

Let's get it clear
I have always been opposed to the Iraq war since day 1 so this question does not condone it
But I am quite perplexed as to why people ,even now, retort to it by saying that it was a conspiracy to tilt the power of oil towards the USA, the second biggest user of oil besides China if I'm not mistaken.
Since the start of the war the price of a barrel of crude has trebled, so surely this is very much not in the interests of Uncle Sam.
Yes, I know that with shortages of oil people are now calling for more bio-fuels, a surefire vote winner with the corn-rich mid-west, even though the ammount of energy used to make corn bio-fuel/ energy produced ratio is 1:1.1 (compared to sugar bio fuel 1:1.6 which would benefit South America much better, especially Brazil)
But if it was about oil why not invade an African nation?
Let's face it- they have weaker defences and haven't the tool of religious martyrdom at their disposal.
Is it just tactical surrounding of Iran or what?
Yes- but the cost of oil for America has TREBLED since the war- so I fail to see the corralation

Well we know that the Iraq war was not about WMDs.....we know the war was not about Al Queda....we know the war was not about freedom for the Iraqi people...we also know that the cost of oil has nothing to do with the war...if that was the case it would only affect oil from Iraq and not a worldwide increase in price...

The demand for oil in China did not suddenly start they day we invaded but speculation on oil prices did....blame the 'get rich quick' merchants in Wall Street first...

Africa is not a major producer of oil...by comparison their reserves are very much smaller..

So oil is still on the table...surrounding Iran is a non-starter....sh!t, if we can't overcome the Iraqis after ten years of decimating the country with sanctions...what hope of even considering invading Iran?

It was a staging post for the real battle with Iran. They never did get over Iran not towing the line.

Because Iraq has a huge amount of oil and America needs it to sustain its economy. In very very basic terms

They should be brought out of there, as it is serving no purpose to anyone. If all Countries had any brains at all...they would not go to war. It would be so simple to trade with each other, instead of going into other Countries, to demolish them and get all the Local people killed. What sense is there in that. We had enough of the last War...but then we were under threat, and that was the reason .But the war in Iraq, is simply greed and when they have all come out, the people have to pick up the pieces, which takes them Years to do so.......Mayhem and Murder...!! Thats what wars achieve...
