Why would the 2 radio buttons on the rear side of the steering wheel stop working

(2000 Chrysler T&C) ? ? these are the two toggle buttons mounted behind the steering wheel that control scan/station preset/cd (left) & volume (right) ? have checked the fuse box but only saw a fuse for radio which turned out to be fine .
