I have had a window a/c unit in my room for weeks. I usually leave it running A couple of days ago I had the a/c and a lamp on at the same time and noticed the lamp was flickering, especially when the a/c unit would kick up a notch. This has happened with a variety of appliances in outlets all over the room. Tonight there was a thunderstorm and we lost power for less than a minute. I am not sure if that is relevant but several hours later I was watching television and the a/c tried to up the fan or something. It was obviously struggling for power and I was worried so I turned it off. About two minutes later my tv died with a large bang and sparks. The dvd player plugged into the same outlet stayed on but started smoking. I unplugged everything in the room. The overhead light won't stay on w/o flickering though and I can't run the ceiling fan while the light is on. There doesn't seem to be enough power for everything but I can't understand why the television died after I had turned off the a/c. I'm a college student with no knowledge of electricity but can anyone guess what might have caused this?
