Why would GM produce a car for over 22 years that doesn't turn a profit?

Of course I'm talking about Saturn. This seems like dreadful business management to me.

It's no wonder they are in the mess they are in. Besides, those cars screamed cheap, were bland and not that reliable, Gee, sounds like most of GM's product line

You would be surprised how much the government ran the car companies before obama actually bought them. GM has pretty solid products maybe you have only bought japanese models but these do not have to stand up to the same standards as american car companies. For instance Ford has a car called the Fiesta, estimated 65 mpg that is more than a pryus but the government will not let them sell it in the US. They are selling millions in Brazil though.
