Why would a novel discuss homosexual repression?

What i mean is why is homosexual repression important to the novel?

I am making a thesis about a novel where is is talking about repression of homosexual desires, but I was told that I need to make it more specific any ideas?
 
Without knowing what novel you are referring to there's no way for us to give you a correct answer.
The short answer would simply be that the discussed repression is obviously integral to the storyline itself...but then again, we'd need to know which novel.
 
you can get deep as far the consequences of repressing those desires and how it can hurt all those involved, you can also detail regarding the thought processing of an individual who is resorting to repress instead of assuming and accepting their nature and embracing one sexuality.The cultural drive propelling denial to oneself and why....Did I mention something interesting? Since I do not know in what contest the novel is written I don't want to go into further detail....Hope this topics gave you some light for your project
 
Market analysis shows that gays tend to have more disposable income. Hence if you write a novel with a gay subject matter such as homosexual repression, it will appeal to a segment of the market that actually has the disposable income to spend on things like novels.
 
obviously its hard to say without reading the said novel but these things are a fact of life.
Because there is so much hate against homosexuals (of both sexes) there are bound to be a few who repress their desires for what ever reasons.
The same goes for heterosexuals as in men who enter the priesthood and take vows of celebacy or women who enter a convent and become nuns, just think of homosexuals entering the same lifestyle ie religious not a problem if they stay celebate.

Dont say that they NEVER get urges but they repress those feelings
