I was friends with this girl and I liked her from the moment we met. A few months ago, we became much closer and started hanging out one-on-one and we talked about everything. We both enjoyed hanging out together and she seemed to like me or at least that was my perception of the signals I was getting. After 1 month and a half of hanging out together, I decided to tell her how I felt about her and I gave it all I had to gather the confidence to do so. When she heard me say that I really liked her, she kind of looked shocked and overwhelemed as though it was something very unexpected for her. I left her that day to let her process the information. She did not say anything for a week and her silence made me feel very hurt and confused. I disclosed my emotions for her later on in a very honest way a week after in an email but I did not mention anything about my hurt feelings. I just mentioned how I was pretty much obsessed with her over the last few months. After two weeks she finally messaged me that maybe we should talk about this.In her message she expressed that she thought we were just friends and she liked it the way it was. I will be talking to her about what happened soon. But I'd like to know what you think caused her long silence if you have been in a similar situation before.
I mean it is a very personal and serious issue. How can one leave a good friend suspended for two weeks after you disclose such a personal feeling , leaving yourself vulnerable in their hands.
