Why would a clutch pedal's engaging position change? (96 honda civic)?

My friend has a '96 honda civic, previously (for years) the clutch would always engage pretty high up (you would just have to press the pedal down a little bit to shift.) All of a sudden she has to push it all the way down to the floor to shift...whats the deal?
