Why won't the delete progress thing go away?

Whenever i delete items off my computer (shift+alt+delete selected items for example), the delete progress bar or whatever its called doesnt go away unless i open up the task manager and end the task from there. This is extremely annoying, does anyone know how to fix this?

By the way im using windows XP.
