Why wont some .avi and .flv files play on my tv when I use a jumpdrive?

I have a large percent of avi and flv files play when I plug a jumpdrive in my LG tv. Some wont play. Any guess as to why? Some mpegs play too, but not as many as play as avi and flvs.
