Why won't my yamaha warrior 350 start?

I just recieved a 92 yamaha warrior that had sat under some guys porch for just under a year and i knew it would probably have some problems. So i took it apart, cleaned it up and then decided to try to start it. It fired once really weakly and then nothing, so i thought that maybe the ignition coil was bad. Replaced it and it took a while to start and ran pretty good. So i try to start it again and nothing, the coil was fried. So i get another and check everything with a meter. I put on the new coil and the same thing happened. It ran real good for a while and then just died. So i bought a new CDI and another coil. Put those on and i now have no spark. And the spark plug cap reads flat. I have zero current running through the cap. So now im all confused and i have no idea whats wrong. My dads an electrician and he cant figure it out either. I went back and tested all of the sparkplug caps and found that none of them read anything and the new coil i have reads below what the book says it should. I really need help cause i really want to ride. Im all out of ideas to try. (i was jumping it off of my truck this whole time)
I tested and retested with and without the caps on. And i havent checked the ground wire. I thought that maybe completely rewiring it would fix it. But havent tried yet.
Also, i dont understand how all of the plug caps that i bought could be defective.
