Why won't my game save to my ps2 memory card?

I'm playing a game called "Vampire Night" but I can't save my progress. Every time I select "save" it says that the save was successful but I have to start over every time. I've tried deleting the save file and re-starting the game but nothing works. Any ideas? Thanks
