Car:
*
Ford Fiesta Zetec Climate 1.4ltr
*
Problem:
*
Struggling to start (ticking over and then engaging)
*
History:
*
Hi I bought a new 57 Reg Ford Fiesta from my local Ford dealer in the winter of 2007. After about 6months of use the car started struggling to start so under my 1 year warranty I took the car in. After being told there was nothing wrong with the car by Ford I carried on as usual. The fault was still there and I took the car in once more and again Ford told me there was nothing wrong with the car.
*
Needless to say my warranty ran out and the problem persisted. The fault its self wasn’t too bad and the car just used to tick over a bit and then start; however in time the length of the car struggling to start grew.
*
This winter just gone, one evening after work I tried starting my car at the train station and it kept ticking over and over and wouldn’t engage. I had to call out my break down cover and when they arrived they told me my battery was dead.
*
I rang Ford up and asked whether they would take the car in seeing as the fault is the same as what I took the car in for when the car was under warranty. They told me they would take a look at the car but if they found out that it wasn’t a Ford fault then I would have to pay for labor plus repairs (if I chose for them to repair it). They also said if it was just a duff battery then it wasn’t covered any way.
*
I chose not to book the car into the dealership and bought a new battery instead. £90 later and the problem seemed to have gone away. After a month of having the new battery the problem started to happen all over again. The car hasn’t yet failed to start with the new battery but the ticking over is again started to get longer before the car starts.
*
Most of the time the car starts fine with no struggle but it seems that pretty much everyday when I get to the station after work it struggles to start for my journey home. In the mornings the car is almost always starting up fine. The journey from the station to my house is only 5 minutes and I don’t use my car too often and when I do its usually for 15-30minute journeys maybe once every other day and a 2 hour drive once a month.
*
I have also noted that when I put my foot on the clutch the car doesn’t struggle to start as often.
*
One last thing I have asked and collect details from Ford of the times I took the car in originally when they found no fault.
*
Questions:
*
Any ideas as to what the fault is (I believe something may be draining the battery) ???
*
Any advice on whether I should try harder this time with Ford to take a look at the car, as I took it in under warranty with the same fault???
*
Should I take the NEW battery back to Ford (which is where I bought it from) saying that it is duff (this one has a three year warranty)???
*
Thanks for reading this and to any replies
*
Have a great day!
