Why wont my computer recognize my flash drive?

when i plug in my usb flash drive (fat32) autoplay doesnt appear, nor does it show up as a drive in "my computer". when i go right-click on computer into manage, i see my flash drive in the disk management thing, but when i right click that the 'explore' and 'open' options are ghosted out. im running this on windows 7 desktop (gateway). the flash drive works fine on my windows xp netbook
