Why wont my car start? 2000 Chevy Cavalier 2.2?

While driving back half way from a 2 hour trip my water pump froze causing my belt to slip off and totally draining all of my coolant out. I was stuck about 20 minutes from my home town. So i stopped at a gas station down the road without using power steering of course. filled it with water and took some jugs of water to go. and kept stopping to let it cool down and add more fluid.

Once i got home I noticed the temperature gauge stopped reading that it was getting hotter, and about the same time i started hearing a tick/chatter when i accelerated. shortly after that i could not accelerate and when i coasted to a parking lot it would not start up.

I got the car towed back to ym house. replaced the water pump, gave it new plugs and wires, new battery. I checked each plug for a spark, and can smell gas when i try to start it up. the engine will crank/turn over like it wants to start, but it will not start.

Sounds like your engine got REALLY hot.
Plastic pieces, electronics, and rubber seals don't like heat.

I hate to say it, but the list of possibilities is extensive.

This IQ-0 time. Screw around with a damaged engine and then you drive it farther toward Engine Heaven! Duh! What the hell did you expect? There is one idiot born every minute.

Sorry to tell you this but you are putting money into a dead engine. It got so hot it fried the motor. Now is the time to think of another car or replace the motor.
