Why won't my built-in webcam connect to video chat in Meebo or AIM6?

My laptop is a Gateway M-151XL running Windows Vista Home Premium (hurf vista's the problem durf). It has a built-in webcam listed as a Gateway USB 2.0 Webcam in Device Manager. I use Norton as a firewall, and have already allowed the webcam through it. Why, then, when I try to connect to Video chat with a friend on AIM6, can I see them but they are unable to view me? All that is displayed is a white box; no error messages of any kind. The webcam's software runs fine on its own, and the latest driver for it is installed, but for some reason AIM can't recognize it. And yes, AIM's settings have been changed to use the Gateway USB 2.0 Webcam as the default camera.
I'm fairly certain my internet connection isn't the problem. There's no reason why a computer than can run MMOFPS's flawlessly would have a problem connecting a couple of webcams. It's Comcast, running at 36mb/s.
