why wont my brake lights work on my 81 1/2 ton chevy truck?

I bought this truck it was in a wreck in the front I can get the tail lights and reverse lights to work but no brake lights I put a test light on the plug in the rear tail light assembly and had a friend hit the brake light and nothing does anyone know where to go from here I was thinking about the lil sencor on the brake petal?any clues?....thanks
