<p1>
Boxer's are one of America's favorite breeds. So it was no surprise when a boxer won
on the first season of America's Greatest Dog on CBS. Known for their presistently
puppy-like nature and their characteristicly "smushed" boxer snout, this breed is sure to
win the heart of anybody who knows one.
<p2>
From personal experience, I can certainly say that boxers can be VERY well trained, housebroken,
happy and well adjusted animals. I have also seen instances where this is not the case.
Irresponsible pet owners can raise "bad" boxers. I say "bad" with quotation marksbecause I am a
firm believer that there are no bad boxersonly bad dog owners. Boxers do require a good amount
of attention and excercise. They are very athletic dogs who needa place to run free (a back
yard will do). I have witnessed on many occassions, my boxer, Moose, in the back yard running
what seemed like laps in the back yard. He was getting out his pent up energy. He does spend
about 3-4 hours per dayin a kennel. And boxers actually do very well in kennels, but not for
prolonged periods of time.

Despite their energetic nature, boxers also make very good house pets, when properly cared for.
When allowed sufficient excercise at appropriate times, boxers will be very calm indoors.Left
alone in a home, a well-trained boxer may simply sleep all day, however it may end up being a
nap taken on your couch!

<p4>
The boxer breed is named for its playfullness. "Boxer" refers to the fact that when play-fighting
they will paw at you with their front paws, much like they are boxing. It is an endearing trait,
however with small children around you will first want to acclaimate your boxer to understand how
to behave with children. You can do this by frequently introducing the dog to children and always
encouraging a calm soothing energy so the dog will not be excited by small children. It will amaze you
how quickly the dogs will pick up on this signal and even become protective of children. This is yet
another reason why boxers are excellent family pets.
Plus, they are so DARN cute!!!
