one night i turned on my high beams and when i turned them off my battery amps went to 9 and all of the gages went out, the radio and the computer also. but it stayed running until i got home. but wouldn't restart. the next morning it started but soon after all gages went out again. i changed the battery and it worked for two days, now it won't stay running longer than 20 minutes. HELP!!!

Sounds like you have a bad alternator. The test is simple if you have a voltmeter: While the car is running the power across the battery terminals should show close to 14 volts when it's charging. You should not see less than 12 volts. First check the charging circuit fuse- I'd hate for you to buy an alternator when only there is a bad fuse.

hmmm.....sounds electrical maybe. Normally when a fuse blows everything that you described happens, (gages. radio going out) but it doesn't start working again until you replace the fuse so I don't think it's that. You already re-placed the battery so my best guess is electrical. Take it into a mechanic or a family member to see what they think.

Check the charging system and all related wiring from the alt to the battery and to the starter.
