Why won't 96 chevy astrovan start after running out of GAS?

We added 5+ gals, poured gas into the carb, and tried shaking the vehicle, but it will not fire. It does turn over fine. Any suggestions?
 
Since it has a carburetor and not fuel injection, you need to pump the accelerator a few times to get the fuel from the tank to the carb. You may want to replace the fuel filter(s) as well; there should be one near the fuel inlet to the carb, and maybe one in the line going to the carb
 
Basically it could be a number of things firstly that car does not have a carb so I have no Idea where you put gas. You may have clogged a fuel filter(very likely),may have clogged and injector, I recommend buying some started spray and spraying it into the air box ,try to keep it running this way for a few seconds at a time.Be careful ad that stuff can be explosive so avoid any wires and make sure you get it in the box only,don;t spray more than you think you need,You have to try to get the fuel pump pumping,which also may need replacement as the fuel pump actually uses Gasoline as the lubricant to keep it pumping.
