...are many modern Christians not? Look at the ancient Greeks. Their gods and rituals were very important in their lives, yet they had people like Archimedes who were scientific geniuses and it's believed the Greek culture had general literacy. The Arabs, before Islam, kept much of our knowledge from being lost forever during the Dark Age and not until recently (the last few hundred years) did the church stop torturing and killing people for being scientific geniuses. And even today, there are many Christians who are afraid of or scoff at science because they think it's a threat.
