Why wasn't the fact that McCain may have not been tortured brought up in the debates?

There are a bunch of vets calling McCain "songbird" and saying that he really wasn't tortured and that he has sealed his records from Vietnam and that he was also suppressing info about POW that didn't have a high ranking military father like McCain did.
