Why was "Tik Tok" used in a Simpsons intro?

It is possibly the weirdest and most irrelevent intro in the Simpsons' history. Yet it somehow was enjoyable, probably more than the episode afterwards. It does not quite make sense. Upon its' conception, Matt Groening intended the series to be an alternative to 'mainstream trash' that airs alongside yet "Tik Tok" is rather a mainstream song and is yet used. Could this be a change of plan to the Simpsons' direction?

The Simpsons' quality decline has been constant for years. Although I have stopped watching it by around season 18 or 19, clips of these seasons to 21 are nothing short of flat while early seasons clips still hold up. The main fault is the lack of fresh writing to almost any part of the series. Couch gags have increasingly became more complex and longer season after season that some are not relevant at all to the sofa. The use of the song seems unoriginal and makes the intro into an AMV of some sort.

I suppose it was done to get "Tik Tok" as a form of advertisement as old enough songs played in episodes that are widely watched gain high success. This shows that the Simpsons is no longer a member of a pantheon of quality TV series but now it is a cash cow for Fox. Able to be profitable, regardless of the quality. The series' legacy seems to be of doubt by this and the song does not help one bit...
