Why was "The Last Supper" painted by Leonardo da Vinci made? Also...?

Is there any reason as to why Leonardo da Vinci painted this? Also is there something interesting that not a lot of people know about in this painting? And what elements did he use to create naturalism and beauty in Leonardo's art?

And just to double check, is the painting at Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan? In a church?
