How did the civil war affect our country economically, socially, and politically? Why are these effects considered to be the most important to the United States?

The Civil War was the first time that the United States were disunited ever since they joined against the British in 1776. They had two presidents, the North had the majority of the factories, resources, men, and railroads. The Southern states tried to introduce a new dollar that was pretty much worthless because the "country" had no gold to back it up. The slaves were freed, but there was really no change in the attitudes of most people towards them.
