Why was the camp guard in The Last Emperor executed as anti-revolutionary ?

In the movie The Last Emperor (1987), the camp guard who earlier oversaw Puyi's release from prison for his merits was led along the young Red Guards' demonstration as an anti-revolutionary. But if he worked as a prison guard in a prison for people like Puyi (not sharing the communist ideal as China then was), why would he be persecuted by the Red Guards ?
