why was segregation the wrong answer in the 1970's?

Segregation had been banned by then. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 made it illegal to discriminate in such matters solely on the basis of race, creed, color, or national origin.

Segregation is always the wrong answer because it creates racial division, which encourages mistrust, prejudice, and bigotry. We will never get rid of racism entirely, but the best way to break down the walls is to encourage togetherness, understanding, and unity between people of different racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
