Why was Kobe able to set the most points scored record at Madison Square Garden?

Why couldnt Jordan, Shaq, Duncan. Lebron, Barkley, Bird, Magic or McGrady be the one to drop in 61 points. Why did it have to be Kobe with all the greats who had come before him?
