Why was George Washington chosen to command the continental army?

Why him specifically? Why couldn't it be someone else? Is it because he was very well respected and well known? Or, was it because he was good at commanding? Whatever, just answer. Good, int resting details, would be nice.
 
he was chosen to command the Continental army because the continental congress wanted someone with experience to lead their army. He used to be in the colonists army so they figured they would choose him. I'm not sure why they didn't choose someone else, maybe they had other people that were considered, but I don't know. Even though Washington was retired, he still wanted to serve his country(which angered his wife a lot). So there's your reasoning.
