Chrysler took a shot at the small car industry in US. However, they went in to design an unusually small car. Typical small cars are toyota corolla, hyundai elantra, subaru impreza, etc etc. However, Chrysler made a bold move to make an "ultra-small" car betting that it will be a major hit because of improved fuel economy. They set a starting price around 18,000 dollars and a marketing disaster followed. The Fiat main executive of US branch was fired by Chrysler in November and replaced. His career is ruined after he took a risk (hoping it would be a big success). The car has red seat interior and red dashboard and red steering wheel, which many customers complained of being very ugly. Even the brake and gas pedals were designed red (which is highly unusual). Red light came out of the internal cabin light too.
So this raises the question if bailout was necessary for Chrysler since it is still making bad decisions?
