It's said that you should unplug your laptop and phone chargers when not in use, as they still use some electricity even when not connected to the device itself.
My question is, where does this energy go? Is it actually leaking out as heat into the surrounding air, or is it whizzing around the charger's circuits, before returning back into the grid (yet they still charge you for it), or (as I suspect) a bit of both?
Also, how much energy is actually being used, surely not as much as when your phone or laptop is plugged in?
