why tmobile rocks!

It's not even the BB's in all honesty. I popped into the local T-Mo store the other day to pickup a new case and the reps were talking amongst themselves about how foolish it was for T-Mo to force customers buying smartphones to signup for a data plan. Although it's entirely true that to really use the features of the phone you need one, you're only hurting your sales in the long run because there will always be those who just want the phone for the name/looks. They were saying it was almost all of their smartphones, except for a select few that now required the plan.

I think it's great. It lines them up with other carriers. I can't imagine why anyone would want a blackberry/iphone/sidekick/g1 without having a data plan. They got rid of mail-in rebates for blackberries because of the required feature. The 8900 is $500 so if they are going to go give you a $350 discount on it, why shouldn't they be able to set the terms? If you don't want the required feature then pay full price.

Part of the money being paid goes to RIM anyways since you're going through BIS. And it's fine if you don't wanna give me a mail-in rebate, but I still feel you are penalizing customers by forcing them to subscribe. I agree however that it is pointless to have a phone w/o a data plan, except if you're using it for a house phone where you have Wi-Fi available and use T-Mo's hotspot feature. Even then though, pay the $10 to get the @Home service.
