i am doing an essay, however.. self esteem is really the only factor i can see why the media shouldn't display super tall skinny models..

give me some reasons!

Most of the women in USA are not super skinny, most of them are in the category of overweight. The ideal of super skinny may lead to discrimination and the out casting of people who are not ideal.
Also, the we should no accept are youth being obese or extremely overweight.

The media broadcasts unrealistic ideals of the perfect man and woman.
The risks of a teenager becoming bulimia anorexia or manorexia may be higher when its is accepted in the mainstream culture.

Fad diets, illnesses in our society may promote this. The problem is not the models or celebrities, it is that our society accepts it.

The health dangers are very important, physical and mental health.

The claims that super skinny models are making young girls ill is the same as the claim that playing video games causes violence in youths.

Yes, the media mat have a part in causing illnesses but that is not the only reason. These young people who suffer from one of the illnesses above have unrealistic ideals about their bodies and need to be helped.

Self-esteem could be an umbrella in which to pull your examples. People will find themselves down mentally when they don't fit into what the media lays out for them. That could in turn make them go to drastic measures to confine to it. Surgery, unhealthy diets, eating disorders (like bulimia, not eating, binging, etc), anorexia, and such. Most of the American population isn't super skinny. I don't have any factual evidence but you can look that up.

Good luck on your essay!
