Why the intense interest in instant replay in baseball?

I've been an avid baseball fan for about 12 years now. I've never seen so much attention paid to the idea of instant replay. Why the sudden [and very intense] interest? ESPN has been collecting and replaying blown home run calls from the past weeks, but I can't help but think this was as much of a problem in previous years. Why has the idea stuck so well this year?
