why the fuck won't my vlc media player work?

i couldn't play the avi file with my window media player cinema so at the advice of another question/answer on this site i got the vlc player. the problem is it won't fuckin play it! it starts too but it doesn't show the video or audio when i hit play, it sits Still for about 4-5 seconds and then the play symbol comes back (having switched to a pause symbol indicating the movie is playing)

how do i get it to play
thx wolf. its gonna take another 30 seconds to download so we'll see if it works then.
aaaaand it still won't play. i got the codecs. which were a better version of window media player cinema but it still won't play. i get an error message saying 'cannot render file'
also i'm watching a 5 part porno and vlc played the first one..... well okay it said i had to 'repair' the video but it did work after that. don't know if that helps just puttinj it out there
 
maybe you should check it for viruses? that's what i do when something on my computer dosent work properly. Or maybe your computer's harddrive is too slow , and you might have to get it updated. hope this helps
