why should i learn how to read and write Chinese i can speak almost fluently?

i can speak Chinese alright, but my mom wants me to take classes to learn how to read and write. I really hate to do that crap. I am also learning Spanish in school and i think Spanish is more important in America than Chinese cause many more people can speak Spanish. I will never in this lifetime do both. What do you guys think?

That crystal ball of yours must be amazing for it to be able to show you exactly what you will do in the future and reveal that you will never, ever encounter any reason at all to be able to read and write Chinese.
