...the banks give up anything? "Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating public or state ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and a society characterized by equality for all individuals, with a fair or egalitarian method of compensation." Merriam-Webster Dictionary

"Capitalism is an economic system in which wealth, and the means of producing wealth, are privately owned and controlled rather than commonly, publicly, or state-owned and controlled." Blackcrayon.com Dictionary

I don't know about you......but I believe definition 1 is a more adequate explanation of what's actually going on. As for the NASCAR topic, 1/4 of a billion dollars is quite a bit of money to invest. If you consider GM's annual revenue for 2008 was $147.6 Billion, .17% of the company's revenue was spent towards advertising in America's largest spectator sport. I would call that marketing genious and fiscal responsibility, not misallocation of advertising dollars. I am by no means a NASCAR fan, but I know NASCAR spurs healthy competition between Ford and GM fans which leads to increased revenues for both car companies. Capitalism is fueled by competition, thus removing the above mentioned competition would remove the edge for GM or any company competing in today's tough economy.

Want a real topic...how can banks take trillions of dollars from Mr. and Mrs. John Q. Public and still sue and foreclose on the same people who bailed them out for the relative pennies that are owed to them? It is a shame that we (lower to middle-class) gave all that money and will get NOTHING in return from these banks. Applied for a loan lately? DECLINED!
