Why see a psychologist if talking to others is just as effective?

I read an article that investigated the efficacy of therapy. A group of depressed people were split up -- half talked to psychotherapists, half talked to humanities professors with no psychological expertise. Apparently, the number of people who felt better after talking to psychotherapists about equaled the number who felt better after taking to the professors. This seems to mean that psychotherapists are relatively useless. After all, what good are they if others without their expertise can be just as effective?

What is your view on this study? Does it prove anything? Are psychotherapists really an unnecessary part of society?
