Why once the candiate for the leadership of Labour has the required number of

signatures do they seek more? Once say David Milliband has the required 34 nominees why is it possible for him to then carry on beyond the required to reach 100 + more?This crowds out other candidates and I cant see what purpose is served in being allowed to go beyond the required minimum of nominees apart from trying to block other candidates.The required minimum shows you have a reasonable level of respectable backing--more signatures don't add anything extra
