buy them out? The big three will not disappear EVER, ok... won't happen.

If they come within months of actual collapse they will merge with foreign manufacturers and be forced at gun point to build better more efficient cars that are more reliable.

Why is that so bad? Oh oh... because they HAVE to run by americans? yeah that makes alot of sense.
Angry man - go f*ck yourself, I'm america you stupid f*ck not ford or GM or you're godd*amn budwiesers out of an F150.

Yes, sell Detroit to Japan as quick as humanly possible. I'll still be American but driving a better car :)
Angryman - Talk with your mouth ok? If the Japanese buy GM and the Japanese economy tanks it will be cause the dollar goes to sh!t and Americans stop buying GM cars (which they already have more or less) Will you stop playing symantecs?
Angry man - a 96' t-bird is a real car, how many of those were build in the 90s and 00s? I drive a 87' 300ZX that has eaten every Mustang GT I've come across in 2 years. What's your point?

That's EXACTLY what I said. SINK OR SWIM! If they fail, one of the big foreign automakers will swoop in and buy them part by part! It will not be a total loss.

OR... let the big 3 combine and share the burden!

BUT DON'T give them billions of dollars! They will only be back for more.

Man.. with a mouth like that... please don't claim to "be America". We don't want that type of person representing our lovely country.

Dear H o t y h,

I agree with you totally. We both know that it won't happen though. I have a saying, "scratch a oilman and you find a car manufacturer and vice versa".

Anyway too much money is out there for the status quo. What should be done won't be because of this. Heck, we need a electric car that gets it's power from the road! Not all of the dumb things like fuel-cells and efficient batteries. Never happen.

I am in my mid 50's and I still remember gasoline at $.30. We have not done anything for 40 years.

Anyway, stay positive. Maybe one day there will be a revolution in this country and we will actually get a government that is responsive to the people.

Randy

So your advocating selling America off to the highest bidder?

Thanks a--hole. You can leave now.

There is something to be said for controlling your own destiny. What exactly happens when Japan's economy tanks and they choose to become introverted? Seems to me like we'd be left hanging w/ limited to no ability to sustain our own economy. Hmmm... not my idea of a party.

**** I own a '96 T-bird. Purrs like a kitten, drives like a dream, and can haul ass when I need it. No problems here. ****

Huh??? What did you say? Budweiser isn't an American beer anymore. It was bought out by InBev a Belgian corporation. Leffe is their only worthwhile product.

Sorry, I didn't catch that. What was that about a 300ZX? I apologize. I was still trying to figure out your first retort.

In the '90s, all of them. In the 2000's, zero. But, I'm okay w/ that. I doubt your 300ZX made it into '88.

It's not the quality or efficiency of their products, it's the fact that they let unions dictate how much they pay their employees and who they can and can't fire and the fact that they pay millions in health benefits and pensions to people who are no longer productive employees. Toyota and Nissan don't do any of these things, that's why they are still building plants and hiring people in this country and the big 3 are going broke and begging for government money.

Well, considering BMW and Mercedes vehicles are junk, that only leaves Honda and Toyota to buy them out.
They definitely need to go into bankruptcy and reorganization, but I like my Ford trucks!!

There's nothing about being bought out that would be considered "failing miserably." In fact, nothing would make the shareholders happier than to be bought out at a premium.

The fact is that BMW, Mercedes, and Toyota have no incentive to buy out these companies, except at bargain prices that would cover only a plundering of their valuable assets and the costs of hauling away the rest to the dumpster. Their goodwill/brand name value of US automakers is worth squat.
