Why my honda civic skips when accelerating?

I have a 95 civic that skips when accelerating, but only in the lower gears. But it idols rough in neutral and idols perfect in park. If you need more detail just ask.
 
sounds like the transmission is slipping from your statement.the lower gears take more abuse than the higher gears do.Have you checked the fluid?And if so was it nice and red or more brown or black in color?These are signs of the fluid being burnt and contaminated.
 
Skip could mean a lot of things. However the first thing that comes to mind is how long since you had a tune up? Spark plugs do need to be inspected and re-gaped on occasion. It sounds like a simple tune up problem more than likely/ Air filters get dirty, plug wires break down, vacuum hoses develop hair line cracks, Air flow regulators get dirty and need cleaned. Best thing is to see your mechanic before the skip turns into a 500 dollar thump.
