Baybreeze,,,what a wonderful idea...about the things you put over your shoes...I saw them in one of those little magazines also..but, because of where I live...why would I ever buy them....yeah...sure...should have bought them. What great ideas some people have...

Do you work outside the home? If not, stay in the house!!!! Like pepper, I don't go outside with any bad weather, and I even worry about just plain rain. Like you, I am a clutz and just can't risk.

I don't even have to fall to hurt myself. If I start to slip or fall and catch myself, that wrenching of my back causes back pain for days.

If my husband ever catches me outside again during inclement weather, he might kill me himself.

Can't you just stay in the house??

Well buddies, i don't understand i have the worst luck. I went really slow going out today and fell on my left side again, it's been very icy around here ugh. My arm hurts really bad a bruise on my left upper leg and low back pain as usual, i doubled up on pain meRAB. I want to be free of falling, my can wouldn't even have helped today and my hubby says i need a walker that lift me in the air or something ha! Wish me luck on this one! By the time summer gets here i will be a mess!

Thanks, Sage!

Okay, the ones I have are called Get-A-Grip removable shoe traction. This one has actually little spikes on the bottom. Its thick rubber that you stretch over your shoes, the spikes get put in on the bottom.

There is another that doesnt have spikes, it has some other kind of traction I guess called Yak Trax.

I have a big foot, womens 10 or 11 and they do strectch enough to go over my shoes. But If i remeraber correctly, one or the other, or maybe both might come in some different sizes.

Maybe this will help for anyone concerned about slipping on ice or snow.

Girls, i really do try, my hubby feels the same way now that he will kill me if i do it again if we haven't iced the walk way. I am hurting real bad yes, time for another pain pill and i haven't had to take three in one day for a long time ugh. My left outside leg is swollen as well as my back hurting and whole left arm that i slammed down on and can barely move. If i am not better in the morning i am going to get it checked out even though hubby thinks i am a baby ect. but i really think i hurt something this time. And so be if it if it is a waste of time then i will know but i am really worried with the pain. I will keep you update no need to worry about that and thanks for being here. I know it is a struggle for many of us but some things have to be left up to mom and taking the risks. I was gonna try to go back to some work this season but couldn't find the strenght especially will all the falls and the risks that i had when i did work and ended up getting weak and falling that way. Funny about the golf shoes, honey mentioned cleats or something similiar. I need to get some rest now, talk soon and be safe yourselves!

oh Monkey...so sorry that you have fallen. You all live in that frozen north somewhere... I visited the north 2 weeks ago...and fell twice in 1 day. Not a good place to be. I do hope that you only bruised yourself,,,and nothing more serious. You are welcome to come to the sunny south...and share Lisa and my beach... Maybe we could situate you half way between where she lives and where I live...so we could both visit you. Seriously...please take it easy and rest...I know what a fall like that can do...it hurts. Hope you feel better soon.

Melissa,
Are you ok? I'm so sorry to hear that happened to you. Be careful. Keep us updated on how you're feeling.

yea monkey it would be a good thing to get it checked out. I know it would soothe your mind. I dont want to be mean but ignore what your hubby is saying it your body and you know how it feels.

I just ordered some of the Yak Trax but they have not arrived yet. We still have at least 3' of snow on the ground. That I can avoid, but our street still has ice on it and it's still so cold that it is not melting. They've run out of road salt, so the side streets are just going to have to melt. I'll probably still be using my Yak Trax in June at the rate we're going!!!:D

hi there, i did go get my arm/shoulder checked it checked out okay but they thought i might have broke something when they tried to move it and and touched it so they did exrays and all okay, thank goodess. I wondered about them shoes things, do you think you can get them through insurance? I almost always at some point have to go out unfortunately. Anyway i am just resting and hubby is babying me that god!

So sorry about the falls, maybe you should get yourself checked if somethign really hurts, make sure you didnt fracture anything. Althoughhhhhh, that would mean you'd have to go out on the ice again. I also try not to leave the house if there's any chance I can slip. At least now while I'm not working, I don't. When I did work, that was always my biggest fear, that I might fall. WHen it was slippery & i had to go to work, boyy was I careful. I would shufflee along sooo slow, I looked like Tim Conway when he played that character LOL. And when I left work, my co-workers were so nice, 2 of them would make me hold on to their arms & they'd walk me to my car. If it snowed during work, someone would always scrape my windows for me. It was so thoughtful of them & i really appreciated it, but I felt bad at the same time. Like I felt weird b/c I am stubborn. But for all I know, them doing all that might have prevented me from hurting myself more.

The other thing I did was to order these things one stretches over the bottom of one's shoes that have little spikes in the bottom. I forgot exactly what they are called, but they are supposed to help your traction while walking on ice or snow. When I ordered them last year, then we had no more snow or ice so i've not used them yet. But will certainly try them next time I ever do need to go out in that kind of weather.

Ouch!!! I don't know if this is an option for you but I refuse to go outside in this stuff! We are having freezing rain here today and I wont even go out on the deck to check the mail because it gets really slick. I guess I am a big chicken. Whenever I know snow and ice is coming I try to get to the store pharmacy or do any erranRAB before or after. I know that staying in isn't realistic for a lot of us but since I can I do. I had lurabar fusion Noveraber(2006) and had to go to PT during the winter and I was terrified. I did have a funny idea though: Get some golf shoes for winter weather. lol Can you imagine walk around on those spikes?

I am so sorry you slipped on the ice. I personally don't leave the house period if it is icy. It is to risky for us spinneys. My doctor even told me that he would perfer that I cancel an appt with him because of the weather and not take the chance of falling. He said that he would get me in even if it was after hours on a non icy day if need be.

Take care and I pray that you have not hurt yourself worse.

I highly doubt any insurance would pay for those slip on shoe traction things. Plus it would be a preventative measure & we all know insurance usually does not get into prevention. They're not really expensive, probably between $10 and $20 for a pair.
