Why isn't rugby a more popular sport in America?

I have to go along with FF. Money. Money is mainly put into the big name American sports of Basketball, baseball and American football. Swimming and athletics don't do too bad but that would be it.

An interesting comment from when the football WC was in the US. Locals asked what chance did the Americans have of winning it and were told none. The comment then was "why play it". That about summs it up.
 
I play rugby for a university and it is the most fasinating sport I've ever seen. It is huge in the rest of the world but Americans hardly know what the sport is...why?
