Why is windows media player not working?

When i try to play any file in windows media player (files that at one time did work) it says "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help."
When i say files i have played before i mean even media like DVD's. One day it just stopped working.
 
GO TO THIS SITE AND DOWNLOAD THIS PLAYER IT'S NOT WMP
BUT ITS BETTER. CANT FIND A FREE WMP DOWN LOAD.
