Why is violating a court order not a crime?

I have a court order that specifies days and times when I can see my son. My ex is not complying with the order, and the police told me they don't deal with civil cases. I filed a motion for contempt, but it seems useless if the police can't enforce it.

It makes no sense to have civil laws, if they are unenforceable. I guarantee if it was the other way around, I'd be in jail right now.
So I guess I will stop paying child support, since that is a civil matter.
